In 2021, the "Coins 4 Kids" program was started by geocachers, Neil Moore (Kneel More) and Jason Hale (Halemeister), as a way to raise money for the annual Podcast of Hope fundraiser. The Podcast of Hope, hosted by the Geocache Talk Network, is presented yearly on the first Saturday of December to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
The idea is for geocachers to collect any loose change found in cache containers while they are out geocaching then donate the money in December to the Podcast of Hope. In addition to cache containers, geocachers are also encouraged to collect loose change found in sofas, cars, pants pockets, or anyplace else that the coins accumulate.
